SCRAPBOOK
for the week of November 11-17, 2024
I'm launching more than one new series on this blog this week?!?! On Monday, I published the first weekly Music Chart post. It's just a fun series that will showcase some songs on my playlist from the previous week in a traditional countdown style, but there's no real data or statistics involved.
Today, I want to share things I found, discovered, liked, loved, and vibed with from the previous week.
I used to scrapbook a lot as a child. Those binders contained everything from photos and items I collected on trips, to hobbies and stickers. I thought I could do that on a digital level here. Afterall, everything is on our phones or laptops or tablets now.
Enjoy.
Look up!
When I was in the 6th grade, my English teacher read us "The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles" by Julie Andrews Edwards. (Yes, thee Julie Andrews, who sang the hills are alive with the sound of music!.) There was a small part in the beginning where the teacher told the children that people never look up; they're always looking down. That stuck with me and to this day, I feel the truth in it.
"Is that a fire?"
"Is that smoke?"
"Is that a cloud?"
"Is it from a factory?"
We were driving towards the highway and from a distance it was difficult to clearly see what the white clump was in the sky.
Since living in California, all of the fires have us on edge. This year, we actually had a fire come towards our house! It was burning down the dry walking trail behind our house.
We now live near a very industrial area as well. So, we often see the factories producing [pollution] smoke.
Turns out it was just a cloud!
Whew!
But I did also see a lot of smoke coming from the factories along the highway.
I woke up to a full moon on Friday.
Now that it's Fall - soon to be Winter - it's dark sooner and dark longer. When I have to get up early for work I now see the moon instead of the sun.
We've had a lot of full moons lately.
I also woke up to a large painful bug bite on my back.
What is this???
I thought it might be a zit, but it wasn't.
It's actually still there right now, but it's smaller. Still hurts a bit.
I had to go to the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to pick up my partner from his recent work trip. - I always enjoy seeing these banners in the international wing. They represent the history of the fashion in aviation transportation. I have never been to the museum inside of SFO, but I decided on this trip that I will make it there within 2025.
I also wore my Blackmilk leggings. I think this is only the 2nd time I've ever worn them. I still have this ridiculous ideal that certain things should be "special" and only reserved for special occasions -but what is a "special occasion"? It's whatever you want it to be!
About a month ago, I took Snapdragon seeds from my garden and decided to try (again) to grow them from seed.
Obviously, this is not the first time I have attempted to grow them from seed, but I've been unsuccessful - UNTIL NOW! I had seed packets prior to this round and none of them ever sprouted. After doing a little research, I learned you shouldn't cover them with soil; the seeds need sun in order to germinate.
They're currently in my garage, since the temperatures dropped. While Snapdragons can survive cold temperatures and even frost, the likelihood of the seeds germinating now are very small, because we're not getting much sun these days. Especially, since the location we have them in happens to be under a tree. (The tree does help them in the Summer from the scorching temps we get.) - The ones inside are doing well though and a lot of them are ready for transplanting! I'm very excited and hoping they survive until Spring so I can plant them outside.
The process from harvesting the seeds to seeing them sprout, and now transplanting them has been both exciting and fun!
And I leave you with this:
The best thing I saw online last week!
Thank you for joining me on my weekly recap. I don't know how often I will do these scrapbook entries, but this was fun! It brought back the memories and mindset of when I was a teenager-young adult and I was blogging my daily life and my little html websites had bits and pieces of daily life on them. -On that note: does anyone still have access to their old LiveJournal or Xanga or WordPress from like 2004-2010?
