Long Island - Day 3

Post office in Lake Grove, New York.

My 3rd and final (full) day on Long Island with Samantha started with a trip to another post office. This one was in the city of Lake Grove. It was a very simple office with just 2 clerks who were very friendly. It was a quick in-and-out run just to get postmarks on postcards for pen pals.

Gashapon machines at ThinkGeek.

Our next stop was to the Smith Haven Mall, which was also in Lake Grove. The mall was a basic mall. I didn't really see much in there that made it unique. I did enjoy being able to go into an actual ThinkGeek location! Here in the Bay Area, we have to go into San Francisco (SF) to get to one and it's a really odd layout; with a very small upstairs entrance and then a downstairs that looks and feels like someone's basement. I went when it first opened, so maybe the SF one looks better now, but I didn't love it at the time I went. The Lake Grove location looked and felt like a normal store! They had gashapon machines too! I don't recall seeing those at the SF one, but they had a Hello Kitty machine and we had to partake! I also enjoyed the mall's Build A Bear store and the New York exclusives!

Our next stop was to eat. Samantha took me to one of her favorites restaurants called "The Good Steer". We were still in the city of Lake Grove. This was a typical American fare. It looked like a cabin and had a very country feel, but definitely more personable than going to a chain like Cracker Barrel. Their food was good, the waitress we had was kind and friendly, and they were great with the baby we had in tow! I would definitely go back just for the good service and ambiance alone! The picture here is of the float I had and it was just over flowing! Everything served had that "help yourself" appeal and not only did it seem like my money was getting its worth, but it also felt like they weren't there to just make a dime; that they really cared about their customers.

At Dave & Busters in Long Island, NY.

Our night was capped off by going to Dave & Busters. - It's an adult arcade, with a restaurant inside. - The only time I've ever been to Dave & Busters was in Jacksonville, FL on a vacation to see my friends who live there. We actually went twice! I loved it! The food was good and the fact that you can walk around and play good arcade games with alcohol is just a bonus! The one I went to on Long Island though was smaller and didn't seem to have the same ambiance as Jacksonville; it felt more like a regular arcade. There were far less machines and actually seemed like they had a few less games. Their prizes were not as nice as the ones in Jacksonville either. I still had a decent amount of points from way back then, because thankfully they never expire! I just didn't see anything I wanted there at all. Never the less, we still had a lot of fun and there wasn't many people there, so it was like we had the place to ourselves! No lines or waiting! That was a bonus!

That concludes my trip to Long Island with my friends! It technically was not my last day on Long Island though. I had the next morning and afternoon with Samantha and then my partner met me there to take me to our hotel to stay for New York Comic Con (NYCC). Our hotel was in Queens, which meant we were still in Long Island that day and when we weren't in the city we were on Long Island. I may write about my NYCC experience, but it'll probably be on my toy/collectors blog or maybe even Afronauts. Stay tuned!
