My 2024 recap in music was presented to me on November 22. Did YouTube/Google know that there was over a month left in 2024?
So, I'm annoyed by this, but also curious to see if my stats change by January 1st or if they totally calculated it from November 22 of 2023. - We shall see!
I wish I had my 2023 stats to compare now...... I feel like I had screenshotted them late; as in I did it in early 2024. I'll have to look for them later. I'm interested in comparing them!
My top track did surprise me a bit..... I didn't stumble upon this song until Summer -August to be exact! (Thanks, YouTube, for capturing the exact date of when I started streaming this song!) I was definitely late to the party with this one, as it came out in early Spring. I don't listen to the radio anymore and I don't follow music charts, so it's either by chance that I hear a new song or the YouTube algorithm introduces me to something new. I'm really glad that YouTube did play this song for me! It has become a favorite! None the less, I'm surprised it turned out to be my top track for 2024, since I started streaming it so late.
I don't listen to a lot of podcasts, so it doesn't surprise me that The Philip DeFranco Show is my top podcast. It's the only one I listen to consistently on a weekly basis, and I will even go back and listen to older episodes if I missed them. I've been listening to this podcast since about 2010. It's changed over the years, but in general, it informs me about news highlights without me having to search the whole internet.
I've really been enjoying the "deep dives" that the show has been doing more recently. I've learned a lot about several different subjects that I otherwise wouldn't have had a clue about!
My top artist for 2024 is interesting, because it's not actually an artist. It's a genre. Therefore, I believe it should be categorized as such, but YouTube felt otherwise. I do listen to a lot of "relaxing music" during yoga, meditation, and before sleeping. However, all of that relaxing music comes from several different artists and companies, but I guess YouTube just sees it as one type and doesn't recognize the individuals who make such music. It's weird and feels a bit disrespectful, but it is what it is at the moment. I'm hoping they change this next year.
Where is the rest of the timeline? YouTube started in April, but I know I've been listening to music on this streaming service since January. I tried to go back to the recaps from the beginning of the year, but I can't see past June.
This past month, I definitely have been exploring a lot new music or older music I haven't listened to in years, so I do think it has been a very adventurous month.
I like my overall musical vibes for 2024. I aim to be a positive and happy person, so I'm glad my music and listening preferences reflected that.
My musical mood should be similar to the vibes, rights? I think this category is kind of redundant, but with the release and popularity this year of "Inside Out 2", I think "moods" was added.
I do think this is accurate. "Chill" is obviously the whole yoga and mediation vibes. I do listen to lot of remixes and pop music that would be considered "upbeat" and "dancey". I do like a good love song and I do like being in love! I'm glad to see "uplifting" is on there. I know "hopeful" was listed as a vibe (above), but I think that a lot of the music I tuned into this year was more than hopeful; it was inspirational, truthful, and fulfilling -so, for that reason alone, I think "musical moods" are necessary".
I have 2 problems with my main recap image.
I don't like the term "undercover agent". It seems deceitful and secretive; which I am neither of those things when it comes to streaming music. When I do listen to music that I choose, it's just me about 95% of the time.
This doesn't show my top albums of 2024, which YouTube did provide an image for.
Also, I'm surprised "Please Please Please" is #4. I feel like I listened to "Feather" and "Because I Liked A Boy" way more this year.
So, I conclude my 2024 Music Recap with the top 5 albums of 2024. This makes sense to me, because I rarely listen to albums in their entirety or straight through. I tend to make playlists of songs from various artists, or I choose songs that come to mind to listen to, or I just pick 1 song to play in radio-mode. If I am going to listen to an album, it's going to be an instrumental one that I put on for yoga, meditation, or relaxation.
Overall, I'm happy and I like what my recap shows me. I do hope YouTube/Google makes some changes for next year regarding how they categorize an individual's preferences and tastes, as well as the terminology they use.
