This website has a new design and has a more modern and up-to-date layout. Christmas came a little early. I decided to start working on this site on October 26, 2021 and since it was only 6 days away from November 1st - when I consider it time to put up Christmas decorations - I made the site Christmas-y, for now.
The site hasn't had an update since March 2020, that's almost 2 years from today. What can I say: I got busy. COVID-19 took a toll on me and a lot of it had to do with my job and having to constantly be involved with the public. I also had a personal incident and didn't want to write or do much that wasn't mind-numbing. Even my social media has been quite dead for the majority of this year.
Around October, I had a bit of surge in my thought process as far as productivity goes. I decided to give this site an update and I will attempt to keep up with it better. -Isn't that always my aim though?
My personal website has had so many re-dos, makeovers, hosts, and even names/titles that I have lost track. I honestly don't remember any of them past my college days (2005), but I've always had at least 1 personal website since I was 12 (1999). I don't believe I will ever not have one. The goal of my personal sites have changed over time and right now I am at the point of wanting to put across the philanthropic work I am involved in now and connect with others who have similar interests.
One thing I am realizing this time around (almost 2 years later and with no work on this site) is that websites are never finished. There is no such thing as a "finished site". There can't be. I'm not going to get too into the business side of websites, but the seasons change; holidays come and go; a person's interests change, and so a website will always have to be updated and changed. Trends and what we perceive as "greater functionality" are changing faster and faster with each generation, and that means anything that involves technology is changing quickly- i.e. websites. This idea of having a website and it being finished once you've "completed" it, is not reality. The reality is that your website is never done; it's always a work-in-progress (WIP). People who visit your site one day might see something totally different than the person who comes tomorrow and one person might see something that isn't completely polished or how you wanted it, but once you make something finally flow on your site there is a new audience.
Updates
Going with what I said above, I feel I've outgrown my "updates page". It's so weird to me not to have one, because I've always had one. Remember, I've had a website of my own since I was 12.....that was 22 (almost 23) years ago. Update pages/sections were just a "thing" since the beginning of people creating personal websites. But! Now we have blogs and unless there is something major to report, people aren't logging onto sites to see what was there last week. We care if something is missing or gone that we liked or wanted to know more about, but we don't want to read a log from 2 years ago about a section that isn't even on the website anymore. - I haven't actually deleted the log of this website yet. I can't make myself do it. It just feels strange and a bit like I am losing a part of my youth. The situation is a lot like when you outgrow a toy, but you can't throw that toy out just yet......... I will delete it eventually though. It is no longer viewable for the audience to see.
This website still has work, for sure. Lots of pieces are not linked or even created yet, but I'll get to it eventually. There is always work to do on a site.
