Shelter-In-Place | Day 3

I did end up working out last night and it really energized me! I know workouts, in general, boost the overall mood and raises energy levels, but it feels like a necessity for myself who is use to being on their feet an average of 8 hours a day/5 days a week, and often lifting throughout the day (not weights, but there is weight to the objects I have to lift). - I actually ended up penning another blog entry for my make-up blog (which I haven't done in a year and half). It was like the workout unclogged a blockage in my mind and spirit! I awoke today ready for yoga. It was definitely easier for me to tune into the fine details of everything I was working on. I fixed up this website and started work for my future career in humanitarian services.

Sent first letters to pen pals in France & South Korea.
Pen Pal Letters

Today was the first day I really ventured out since coming home from New York and having the Shelter-In-Place take effect. I stayed in Sunday; Monday I just went to work and Safeway, then home; yesterday was just the park down the street from my house. I've heard people's accounts of what the Bay Area looks like in the "post-apocalyptic world" -people are so dramatic! But I needed to go to the post office to mail back 2 tops from Nasty Gal I had bought for New York that didn't fit and there's a deadline for that. It's only $50 total, but that's still $50. -For everyone that keeps telling me that my tiny chest is great: You have no idea how hard it is to buy tops in a world made for people with BOOBS!

Anyway, I also needed to mail some pen pal letters. I actually penned them on the plane ride to and from New York. I had the flipbooks done and the envelopes properly stamped, but silly me forgot envelopes to put the actually letters into the flipbooks and just got around to doing it yesterday. Heh. They're off now though! To 2 new pen pals too! These were first letters to France & South Korea. I've tried to have French pen pals before; both attempts really didn't get off get the ground, so hopefully this one sticks! I've never had a pen pal in Korea and last summer my Japanese pen pal ghosted me and so I haven't had a pen pal in Asia in almost a year! I have high hopes for this lady in Korea though! We hit it off in our messages on Global Penfriends, so I'm thinking it's for the long haul! *POSITIVES*

I went to Target after the post office, which by the way: USPS has not announced any changes to services or operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Target had a steady stream of customers, but it was not as crowded as it usually is. My partner and I were able to get parking in the first slot and that never happens! The shelves were bare. The main goal for us was to get at-home workout equipment, which was all gone except for 2lb-ers. (Turns out, we were late to the party.) Paper products were completely gone. Crazy, that people are still hoarding them! What happened to all this "green living" in the Bay Area?! Seriously, everyone always talks about resuable towels and napkins! We were told to come back first thing in the morning if we wanted any, because they were expecting a shipment, but it'll be gone upon opening. Safeway was in slightly better shape than Target. We went there after realizing Target really didn't have much left of anything we needed. They had their cheaper small packs of paper towels left, which was a bummer, because their rule is a limit of "2 packs per household". So, all the big packs were gone and we were limited to 4 total rolls (two 2-packs). There was no toilet paper at all.

During Shelter-In-Place all food service dining is prohibited.

What really got to me today was when I walked into Safeway and saw Starbucks roped off. During Shelter-In-Place, all public gatherings are forbidden and that includes multiple seating at food services. Driving around downtown at home looked the same. Every business I looked into had their doors closed, lights out, and tables and chairs put up or away. It's just a sight I never thought I would see in real life during the day. It started to hit me, the effect that this virus is having on the world. I even noticed that when turning on Pokemon Go while driving through the downtown area, not much spawned. That's good on Niantic's part to prevent people from going out, but just not something I've ever witnessed before.

I feel like I accomplished a lot today. I even worked out again, full body (and my body is really feeling it now! I think I need a rest day tomorrow)! I also feel like the world is forever changed and just how much of this is permanent, only time will tell.

I will note that:

  • The death toll in Italy has risen past China with over 3,400 deaths.

  • Houston, TX reported 50 cases of Corona.

  • NJ now has 9 deaths and 26 dead in NYC.

  • Amazon warehouse reported it's first case of Corona from a worker.

  • The national government continues to debate how much stimulus money people will receive and when.
