Stay At Home | Day 8

No pictures today. Nothing happened that really warranted me taking a picture. I didn't do my make-up or hair. I felt like my skin needed a break. I didn't go anywhere, because I really didn't have the need to and society is suppose to be practicing an indoor lifestyle right now.

Today is 1 week that the Bay Area has been in this "stay at home" policy. For some it has just begun, but for most of America it has not even started. So far:

  • Only 17 States have issued a Stay At Home policy.

  • 26 counties & 10 cities in 11 other states are issuing the Stay At Home policy.

People nationwide who are practicing Stay At Home seem to be over it. A lot are claiming to have "lost it". Personally, I feel the irony from my co-workers and those in similar situations- that is, everyone wanted this before it even started; a month of no work and still getting paid, but now many are seeing the grass is not greener on the other side and while some of us are using this time to accomplish things and get life in order (I know I am!), there are a lot of people just laying around watching TV and playing on their phones -and that can get old real quick! No one can force adults to be productive, but then again no one should have to.

While every day society might be a bit annoying (via social media, of course), it is the politics that have really gotten to me today. It seems like President Trump's only concern is getting business back open. His speeches are all about "opening American doors" by April. In a month or less he wants everything back the way it was. Yet, health officials are saying this is absolutely not the way to go about it and we're not doing enough. They compare us to China and South Korea who have been able to curve the virus by forcing people to stay at home and actually shutting everything down, and praising the "East Asian mindset and philosophies". They warn that if we do not halt this now we will be worse than China was. The news reported that the state of Louisana is fast rising with cases and deaths, and could soon overtake New York's totals if they're not careful.

The mayor of NYC announced that they do not have enough supplies to treat their people past this week. Since Trump cut the budget for health in the United States, the whole country is not in good shape to treat this. It was announced today that the city of San Francisco has set up testing tents in a parking lot to start testing people. It is said we need billions to invest in treatment nationwide. Meanwhile, the national government says in order to save the American people we need a $2 trillion stimulus package.

While I am fortunate enough to be getting paid for at least 3 weeks, it is not guaranteed after that and I know my job cannot afford to pay us if we are not making money. Unemployment in America is expected to rise to 30% by the end of April.

And so all this is being said and announced, and I can't help but start to worry and feel concerned for myself and my nation, and really, the world. So many questions:

  • What if I have to return to work and the virus is still spreading? Will I get it? Will I give it to others? Will I die?

  • What if my loved ones have to go back to work and they catch it?

  • If we don't go back to work, how will we get paid? What will happen to my benefits?

  • Should I look for a new job?

  • When will this be over?

  • How much is really being spent on healthcare and how much is really being done to help the people?

  • Why are the states not receiving the help they need?

  • Why are the states that do have a Stay At Home policy, including California, not enforcing it with stricter force?

  • Why does it take a pandemic for people to start appreciating jobs like food services and retail?

  • Why do we need a pandemic to help the environment?

And just to put the icing on the cake- the state of Texas banned abortions yesterday, because they want to stop the spread of the Coronavirus. Meanwhile, this same state government is telling people to return to work and that old people should suffer to help the economy. This is a Republican government; the same one that bashed Obamacare, because they said it would harm and kill the elderly.

America was never more divided in current times than it was 4 years ago and it doesn't seem like we got over that mess, and now it only stands to get worse as everyone is panicking.
